About Nathan

A career that began in an unlikely place.

My work as an organizational psychologist began in Mongolia. I was teaching English during an extreme winter — what locals call a dzud — and watched ordinary people draw on resources I didn't yet have language for. Rather than try to forget what I'd seen, I dedicated my career to understanding and improving workplace systems, leadership development, and organizational effectiveness.

At California Baptist University, I designed and now direct the Master's in I‑O Psychology — a nationally Top‑10 program and the #1 I‑O Psychology program in California. In eight years the program has prepared 200+ practitioners now working across Fortune 500 firms, global consulting groups, and mission‑driven institutions. 80% secure relevant roles within three months of graduation, and over 90% are the first generation in their families to earn a graduate degree.

“We have a daily opportunity to choose between victim and agent.”

Through Momentum Coaching + Consulting, I advise leaders on leadership formation, strategic alignment, and organizational culture — drawing on industrial‑organizational psychology and cross‑cultural leadership research. I've designed executive programs for global brands, supported leadership integration through mergers and acquisitions, and led executive retreats for nonprofits and private organizations.

From 2022–2023 I served as International Relations and Protocol Officer for the Office of the Mayor, City of Riverside, leading a trade delegation to Gangnam, South Korea, and advising on a proposed $50M Korean cultural center. My consulting practice spans the United States, Mexico, and India, and I've presented research at the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP), the European Association of Work and Organizational Psychology, CIPD Dublin, and the Western Psychological Association.

A dual US/Canadian citizen, I grew up on a family farm two miles outside a South Dakota town of 200 — which is to say, leadership across very different worlds has been lived experience as much as research interest.

Frequently Asked

Questions people ask first.

If you're wondering whether Momentum is right for you, start here — or skip to the 30‑minute conversation.

What is Industrial‑Organizational (I‑O) Psychology, and how is it different from other kinds of coaching?
Industrial‑Organizational Psychology is the scientific study of human behavior at work. Unlike coaching rooted only in personal experience or business frameworks, I‑O psychology applies peer‑reviewed research on leadership, motivation, team dynamics, and organizational culture. Nathan's coaching integrates that research with real executive practice — you get both evidence and experience.
Who is Momentum's coaching for?
Individual executives navigating growth, transitions, succession, or the weight of the role — and organizations investing in leadership development, executive retreats, M&A integration, or culture work. Most clients come from Southern California, though Nathan consults across the US, Mexico, and India.
Where are you based, and do you travel for engagements?
Momentum is based in Riverside, California. Nathan meets one‑on‑one clients virtually or in Southern California, and travels internationally for corporate engagements, retreats, and keynotes. Past work spans the United States, Mexico, India, the UK, and South Korea.
What happens in a free 30‑minute information session?
It's a short, no‑commitment conversation. Nathan asks about your situation and what you're hoping for — whether that's coaching for yourself, a program for your team, or something in between — and shares an honest view of whether Momentum is the right fit. No pitch, no pressure. Book via Calendly.
What are Nathan Iverson's credentials?
Nathan holds a PhD in Industrial‑Organizational Psychology from Seattle Pacific University. He is Program Director of the Master's in I‑O Psychology at California Baptist University — the #1 I‑O Psychology program in California and nationally ranked Top 10. He writes regularly for Psychology Today's "The Evolving Workforce" column and has been featured in Authority Magazine, ABC7 LA, University Business, and Voyage LA. His peer‑reviewed work appears in Organizational Dynamics and International Perspectives in Psychology.
Do you offer therapy or mental health services?
Momentum provides coaching and consulting, not therapy. When clients need mental health support, we refer to Dr. Bergin Family Counseling Services — a trusted practice with licensed therapists offering compassionate care.
How much does coaching cost?
Investment varies by scope — a single‑leader engagement is priced differently than a leadership team program or an organization‑wide effort. After a free 30‑minute discovery call, I'll share an exact proposal that fits your situation. Most professional development budgets cover individual coaching engagements, and I'm happy to provide an invoice in any format your finance team prefers.
How long is a typical engagement?
Most individual coaching engagements run about six months — biweekly 60‑minute sessions, with light support between calls — followed by optional monthly check‑ins for clients who want a sustained thinking partner. Shorter engagements (single sessions, intensive workshops, retreats) are also possible, but most of the value comes from sustained work over time.
What if it's not a good fit?
The free 30‑minute discovery call exists for exactly this reason. If the work isn't right for where you are or what you need, I'll say so — and often refer you to a colleague who's a better fit. There is no obligation to move forward, no follow‑up sales pressure, and no awkwardness if you decide it's not the moment.
